Spelling used to stress me out.
It was hard for me to spell common words, especially confusing pairs like: there/their/they're,
where/were, said/says, to/two/too, and would/could/should.
I also had a hard time pronouncing words properly. I had problems saying L's and R's.
When I started tutoring with Karen, I had a lot of fun in the lessons, which motivated me and made me look forward to learning. This happened in a lot of ways.
Her games were a fun way to play and learn at the same time. Her workbooks made learning interesting and easy. She had lots of different progress charts, and I liked tracking my progress. Her "SMART Check" system helped me learn how to proofread my work. I liked Karen's fun tricks for helping me remember the difference between b, p, and d.
Karen helped me learn to speak properly, and I pronounce words better now. I've gotten better at reading complex words correctly.
Her stories taught me how to be a good actor when I read. I can read with expression now, when I read out loud.
I am more confident in spelling, and I'm not not afraid to mess up. Karen taught me how to make my sentences sound more professional when I write.
Besides learning how to read, write and speak correctly, I got to teach Karen things too! It was fun to share my interests and experiences. I liked having someone to talk to.
I told Karen about things like my gymnastics, my interest in AI and VR (virtual reality), my AI helper named Gary, my art projects, and my Rubik's cube. I taught her about coding, programming, Blender animation, and game development. I liked educating her about the video games I was playing.
When my family traveled, I came back and told Karen about my memories and experiences. After I
went to Japan, I told Karen about origami and about how I'm learning the Japanese language.
I've even helped educate Karen about computers and Zoom! I feel happy that I got to teach her
things.
Tutoring has definitely helped me. I don't think I would be able to spell without Karen's help! I am
more advanced now, and I spell and read out loud more confidently than I did before.
